The Faculty of Life Sciences at the University of Ilorin houses academic programs in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Optometry and Vision Science, Plant Biology and Zoology. Established in 2014 from the former Faculty of Science (founded in 1976), the Faculty initially comprised four departments: Biochemistry, Microbiology, Plant Biology, and Zoology. In 2014, the University Senate approved the creation of the Department of Optometry and Vision Science, which began full operations in the 2014/2015 academic session. The Faculty also oversees the Botanical Garden, Herbarium, and Unilorin Zoo through the Departments of Plant Biology and Zoology, respectively.
